Like the Boy Scout motto “Be Prepared, it is essential to be prepared for any emergency for you and your family.  It is important to have a supply of items you need stocked and ready if needed.  No one wants to think about emergencies, but you can rest easy knowing you and your loved ones will be ready.

Home Inventory

What would happen if your home was damaged or destroyed?  What would happen if you were the victim of theft?  Do you have enough insurance to cover all your belongings?  Would you be able to provide a detailed list of the items in your home?  Most people in the aftermath of a disaster or theft forget a good portion of their possessions when it is time to make an insurance claim.

A Fresh Start’s reasons why you must have a home inventory:

  • Moving – Having documentation of items prior to moving is beneficial if the moving company damages your items.  This will make it easier to file a claim with the movers.
  • Emergency Preparedness – You will need an inventory if anything were ever to happen to your home in an emergency.  You will be able to check with your insurance agent to verify you are properly covered prior to an emergency, so you can recover much sooner.
  • Tax/Estate/Financial Planning – Having your possessions listed and itemized will allow you to easily provide necessary information when planning your Trusts, Wills, or any other legal documentation.
